VftH started as a weekly newspaper column in 2001, focusing on aspects of Taiwan's history, culture, museums and language of interest to foreign residents and visitors.
This relaunched blog edition continues those themes, and adds poems, short stories, photos, trivia and observations of current affairs.

About Me
MC
Calliope, it's said, inspired Homer's Iliad,/
Erato, bizarrely, Virgil's Aeneid,/
as for poets of more recent times,/
Chaucer asked Cleo for help with his rhymes,/
Shakespeare and Pope sought Pierian pearls,/
but pound per Pound were outweighed by some girl.//
Even I hear voices at times I don't choose,/
though I can't say for sure who it is lights my fuse,/
some say it's just a symptom of madness,/
cos bipolar brings light as well as great sadness,/
and I've sought reflection in gin, beer and red wine,/
but mostly, Muse, thy name is Deadline.
