This must be the most low-tech, cheaply made religious statue I've ever seen. But who is it?
The 王 on his/her forehead might indicate 王爺 Lord Wang, the deity whose boat is commonly burned. And that he/she is made of straw might make for easy burning. But this photograph comes from near Suao in Yilan, not a big Lord Wang locality as far as I know.
The flags at the back are similar to those in 五營 shrines, and this was a similar simple, roadside shrine.
Any ideas?
